LARRY VAIL Agent I received a call from Bill Crocker informing of the death of Larry Vail....l/17/00...cancer...Larry worked in OMA/SMF and some other FL stations before the FL/CN merger in l967...cards can be sent to his wife Mary at 4421 Loclwood Way, Sacramento, CA 95821 Richard Dix (1/21/00) Correction on the address...Mary Vail...4421 Lockwood Way, Sacramento, CA Richard Dix (1/23/00) Dixie, Larry Vail worked the freight counter at OMA on the afternoon shift didn't he? Chuck Tisckos (1/23/00) Chuck, Last thing I can remember Larry working was the graveyard shift like midnight to 8:00 a.m. when we worked EA. He transfered to SMF then....but what a crew we had on the graveyard...that's when Al Louis was hired...Dec. of "72". I remember Larry said he did not see Al's face until spring when the weather turned warm...what memories. Richard Dix (1/25/00) That was a great crew at OMA station. We had a 5 ring circus for sure. We were all a bunch of hustlers. We could handle alot of work with the minimum amount of people. Seems like we just did what we had to do and it got done. We never slighted EA's operation even tho we could have. You're right those are some great memories. It's such a pity that jerks like Frank Lorenzo, Glen Ryland and the O'Neills and others had to spoil our fun and ruin it all. Chuck Tisckos (1/25/00) I remember Larry Vail and a lot of the old OMA people, I went there sometime in the 70's to help open Maintence, stayed maybe 6-9 months, hung out at the Quebec Inn and got caught in a horrific blizzard there, drove a yellow 67 Corvette with several theft attempts out of the employee parking lot, I had that car rigged for anti-theft that Houdini himself could'nt steal it. The OMA guys were great, I got there when Charlie Carper was there and then replaced by Lee ? The OMA guys did'nt like that change.Remember getting many a haircut in the back room, who was that guy? I remember Dixon and Vail and a few others, How about a Frank ??? and Steve ???Help me out you OMA guys! I remember when Emmitt Spinks would come thru and magically start the prop rotating with a wave of his hand out the sliding window, that would blow some minds at the gate. Then I went to STL, that was a good time! Jim Taylor (1/25/00) According to the Social Security Death Index, Larry Vail was born 27Apr39 and died 17Jan00, age 60. Jake Lamkins (6/22/00)
